We tin can't say enough well-nigh this week's episode of The Magicians. Join united states of america on this emotional journeying to the heart of 1 man's deepest fears and regrets, and what is also hopefully an irreversible turning bespeak for our personal favorite pairing…

There is no denying this episode centers around Eliot, so the majority of today'due south commentary will focus on him too. Last week, the Monster told Quentin that Eliot is dead, but the audience was allow in on the fact that, indeed, he is non! Just trapped inside his ain heed. So, this week, when "Charlton", a quondam possessee of the Monster, shows upwardly and informs Eliot that the Monster has taken over his torso, Eliot is determined to fight to become it back. Charlton tells him that he has to notice a door to get out (admitting temporarily, to go a message to his friends that he's still alive in there), only the door is hidden in his "nearly repressed and traumatic retentiveness". We take a walk down this memory lane with Eliot, accompanied past his friends (well, sort of). Some of the memories are funny, but most are centre-wrenching. We get to see some dark, ugly parts of Eliot's past, bringing fifty-fifty more richness and depth to this already brilliantly layered and tragic character.

Then finally… FINALLY… the payoff. Eliot realizes where he needs to go to find the door and it was something we never saw coming until right before it happened. And and so it admittedlygutted us. When they took us back to that flavor 3 scene… right after Quentin and Eliot lived a whole life together in Fillory… allow's merely say in that location were not plenty tissues in the earth. Grab us ugly sobbing for the residue of the week every bit we rewatch the last ten minutes of this episode on an endless loop.

The Magicians is a testify that is very adept at making us experience things deeply, just not since 3×05 (A Life In The Day) has an episode packed an emotional punch similarthis. Never in our wildest, fanfiction-y dreams could nosotros have imagined that the writers would circle back to that incredible episode in such a dynamic way. To say we were overwhelmed by the chemistry between Hale Appleman and Jason Ralph would be putting it far besides lightly, not to mention the tremendous acting skills of each of them.

VIPhasto go to Hale this calendar week, however. Even though Summer Bishil and Olivia Dudley both deserve an honorable mention for doing some heavy emotional lifting, Unhurt Appleman was an absolute powerhouse, juggling the dual roles with a level of vulnerability and nuance worthy of all the awards.

At this signal, we are truly desperate for Eliot to become free of the Monster and be reunited with hissoulmate! These two take endgame written all over them. (Yeah, we said it. And and then did Hale.) The Magicians, please don't let united states of america downward! Information technology is beyond fourth dimension to let Queliot truly set sail.
